Stars & Stripes Rice Krispie Treat

To make these perfectly patriotic Stars & Stripes Krispie Treats, you’ll need:

2 bags of mini marshmallows, 1 large box of Rice Krispies, 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 stick of butter, 1 can buttercream frosting, 2-3 packs of red-white-and-blue Airheads belts.

To bake up a double batch of marshmallow krispies, as found on the back of the box. However, to elevate them to a true treat, here are Theresa’s three secret tips: (1) Use real butter, (2) Melt the marsmallows over medium heat in a Teflon pot–but not all the way! Remove the pot from the heat just when most of the marshmallows have melted (but there will still be a few marshmallowey lumps) to get gooey, chewy treats, (3) Stir a half teaspoon of vanilla into the melted marshmallow mixutre as soon as you remove it from the heat.

Add the appropriate amount of rice krispie cereal to the marshmallows, then press the mixture firmly into a lightly greased 9×11 pan. Allow to cool. Using a small, star-shaped cookie cutter, cut the cooled marshmallow krispies into shapes. Spoon 1/2 cup of the frosting into a small, zip-top bag. Snip a small corner of the baggie off, and pipe the frosting around the cut edges of star krispies. Press the Airheads belts around the edges, using the frosting to secure it to the krispy treats. (If you can’t find Airheads belts, just press red-white-and-blue sprinkles onto the icing.) Pipe a small dollop of icing onto the center of each star, press a small red candy (M&M’s or Haribo Raspberries work well) into the icing.

Allow frosting to harden in a cool place before serving. Enjoy!

Shrek Glassware has been Recalled - Return to the Restaurant

In collaboration with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and as a precautionary measure, McDonald’s USA has issued a voluntary product recall of the four Shrek Forever After™ promotional pieces of glassware recently offered in U.S. restaurants. It's important to know that the CPSC has said the glassware is not toxic. However, we’re requesting customers stop using the glassware and return them to any U.S. McDonald’s restaurant beginning June 9. Previous McDonald’s promotional glassware and Happy Meal toys are not involved in the recall.

To be clear, the glassware was evaluated by an independent third-party laboratory which is accredited by the CPSC, and determined to be in compliance with all applicable federal and state requirements at the time of manufacture and distribution. However, in light of the CPSC’s evolving assessment of standards for cadmium in consumer products, McDonald’s determined in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall of the Shrek Forever After™ glassware is appropriate.

As always, the safety and well-being of our customers is a top priority and would never be knowingly compromised. McDonald’s safety standards are among the highest in the industry and we have a strong track record. McDonald’s has a longstanding, cooperative relationship with the CPSC, and we continue to follow their lead as testing protocols and new scientific information becomes available.

I've Got the REDCard Inside Scoop form Target

I got the inside scoop from my source at Target when I was shopping yesterday about a new Rewards program that Target announced to their employees that will begin this fall.  This new program will award Target shoppers a 5% off instant discount at check-out every day when they use a REDcard at any Target store or on Target.com. If you are unfamiliar-there are 2 different types of Target REDcards. There is a Target Check Card which works like a Debit Card through your checking account and there is a Target Credit Card. You can go HERE to see the differences and apply for both-but you can also just apply in the store.

The good news is that this discount will be for BOTH the Target Credit Card & Target Check Card. This new Rewards program will replace the current one where you earn a 10% Off coupon, but the current program will remain active for cardholders until the new one is activated this fall.

Target has had this program on a test run in Kansas City since October 2009. Jenny, who is in Kansas City has been using it since it started and loves it. She said that you get the 5% off upon payment and the discount shows up on your receipt. The discount is taken after all coupons and before tax. If any other Kansas City folk that have been able to take advantage of this program have any other thoughts on their experiences with it please feel free to comment below.   

Target also announced a change to the Pharmacy Rewards program. Starting this fall, guests will receive a coupon good for 5 percent off a future day of shopping every time they fill five prescriptions at a Target pharmacy with a Target REDcard. Get Ready for P&G New Release Coupon Book this Sunday!

You might want to pick up extra Sunday newspapers on June 6th, 2010. Proctor and Gamble (P&G) will have over $100 worth of coupons of their branded products in the upcoming Sunday advertising inserts.

P&G will have coupons for beauty, grooming, dental products, and home care products with most coupons expiring around July 31, 2010. The brands include Pantene, Gillette, Crest, Old Spice, Venus, Dawn and PUR water filters.

In addition to the P&G coupons, there will be other ad inserts as well. The June 6th ads should be a little bit more than an average week.

If you clip grocery store coupons, and you use them strategically you can sometimes get products for next to free or at little cost. If you are organized and plan you grocery coupon shopping strategically you can easily save hundreds of dollars each year -- just look at my pics!

The Big Lots advertisement that came in the mail this week shows a 50 ounce All laundry detergent is $4.50 [or 2/$9] until June 5th.

Pull your 5/16 RP for $2.00 off All coups and price match with the ad at Target or Wal-Mart for a 50 oz. bottle of All laundry detergent for just $2.50!  As many coupons as you have you can get a bottle!

My experience at Target has been that they take the advertisement, type in the information at the Customer Service desk, and keep the ad.  Do not expect to receive it back.  You might, but expect that you may not.  So if you have any other price match items from that ad, do it all at once.
